TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

  • Visit a local community and discover their traditions, lifestyle, and deep connection with the rainforest
  • Explore Güira Oga Rescue Centre and learn about protecting native species
  • Discover the Jesuit Ruins of San Ignacio and the cultural importance of yerba mate

Day 1: IGUAZU: CULTURE, WILDLIFE & TRADITIONS

At approximately 8:00 am, departure from the hotel to begin the day with a visit to the Comunidad Guaraní Yasy Porã. Upon arrival, guests are warmly welcomed by members of the Mbya Guaraní community, who share their worldview, traditions, and way of life within the Misiones rainforest. A guided interpretive walk through the village offers insight into their culture, language, social organization, use of medicinal plants, and deep spiritual connection with nature. Visitors also have the opportunity to discover their handicrafts, created from natural materials sourced from the surrounding forest.

Following this enriching cultural experience, the program continues with a transfer to a local restaurant for a regional lunch. Guests will enjoy traditional flavors of Misiones, typically featuring dishes prepared with ingredients such as cassava, freshwater fish, and local meats.

In the afternoon, the tour proceeds to the Güirá Oga Wildlife Rescue Centre. During a guided visit, guests learn about the vital work carried out to protect native species through rescue, rehabilitation, and reintroduction programs. Many of the animals cared for here have been affected by illegal trafficking or accidents. Visitors can observe a variety of birds, reptiles, and mammals native to the Misiones rainforest, while gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of conserving the biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest ecosystem.

The day concludes with an interactive cultural experience centered around mate, one of Argentina’s most iconic traditions. Participants learn about the origins, cultural significance, and social rituals associated with mate, as well as the history of Ilex paraguariensis (yerba mate). The experience introduces the essential elements involved—such as the gourd, bombilla, yerba, and hot water—and explains the differences between traditional mate, mate cocido, and tereré. Guests will also learn the customs of preparing and sharing mate, before having the opportunity to prepare their own and enjoy this unique social ritual together.

Overnight in Iguazu.

Day 2: IGUAZÚ: JESUIT HERITAGE & YERBA MATE JOURNEY

At approximately 8:00 am, departure from the hotel to explore the cultural, historical, and productive roots of the province of Misiones. More than a simple journey, this experience is designed to give meaning to the landscape by connecting the region’s Jesuit–Guaraní heritage, the importance of yerba mate production as a symbol of local identity, the distinctive scenery of Misiones, and the natural resources of the northern region. The excursion combines historical heritage, productive culture, and natural attractions through a well-paced itinerary featuring interpretive stops and low-impact activities suitable for all types of travellers.

The day begins with a visit to the San Ignacio Miní Ruins, part of the Jesuit–Guaraní Mission complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, visitors gain insight into the organization of the Jesuit reductions, the relationship between the Guaraní people and the Jesuit missionaries, and the historical and cultural significance of this remarkable site.

The journey continues with a visit to a traditional yerba mate plantation. Guests are introduced to the full production process—from harvesting to drying—while discovering the role this iconic infusion plays in everyday life and regional culture. The visit concludes with a tasting, offering a genuine and immersive perspective of Misiones’ identity.

A scenic stop is made in the town of Jardín América, providing time to rest and enjoy lunch in a relaxed setting before continuing the journey.

In the afternoon, the excursion proceeds to the Wanda Mines, a renowned site for semi-precious stones. Visitors can explore the mining area, learn about the geological formation of these natural treasures, and observe striking specimens of amethyst, agate, and quartz characteristic of northern Misiones.

It is recommended to wear light, comfortable clothing suitable for a warm and humid climate. Temperatures are generally high throughout the year, and humidity in the surrounding rainforest can make the heat feel more intense. A hat or cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen are strongly recommended to protect against the sun, especially during midday hours. Additionally, bringing a light rain jacket or poncho can be useful, as visitors may get splashed by the mist from the falls or encounter occasional tropical showers.
